The Resilience Project
UPDATE ACROSS THE YEAR LEVELS
The Year 7s have kicked off the week with a burst of mindfulness energy! They ventured out on a scenic class walk along the Yarra Trail, soaking in the fresh air and taking in the beauty around them. Back in the classroom, students dove into a range of calming activities: some chose to express themselves through drawing, others enjoyed a peaceful video, and a few let their minds wander into a place of quiet reflection. What a perfect way to settle the mind and set a positive tone for the day ahead!
Year 8 students have been shining with empathy and kindness. They've been brainstorming all the different ways they can spread kindness, not just to their peers, but to everyone around them – teachers, family members, and even coaches! To put their ideas into action, each student focused on one person they felt could use a little extra happiness right now, and they brainstormed ways to brighten that person’s day. With Year 8 camp, this focus on kindness will be crucial as they face challenges together and continue to support one another.
Year 9s have been deep in thought as they worked through various scenarios and dilemmas to explore what it means to truly understand someone else’s perspective. They practiced walking in other people's shoes, tapping into their empathy and reflecting on their own personal values and morals. It’s all about learning to see the world through different eyes, which is such an important skill as they navigate the complex world around them.
And the Year 10s, have been diving into the world of moods and emotions. They’ve been reflecting on what triggers their feelings—whether positive or negative—and exploring ways to take control of their emotions, especially as we head into exam season. Recognising what boosts their mood and keeps them focused is a powerful tool for managing stress and staying on track when things get tough.
Family Activity Idea: Kindness & Gratitude in Action!
Here’s a fantastic idea for families to practice kindness and gratitude together: At dinner each night, encourage everyone at the table to thank another family member (or anyone present) for something they’ve done or said that day. It could be as simple as a compliment or an acknowledgment of something thoughtful. This daily practice will help everyone feel appreciated and build an even stronger sense of connection and positivity in your home!
