Year Two

Dear Year Two families,
The Grade Two students have had a fantastic first term of learning. We have completed our first Unit of Inquiry investigating how 'people express important events through celebrations and traditions' and were able to celebrate this through our cultural picnics.
In Reading, students explored a celebration of their choice as the culminating task of our Unit of Inquiry into celebrations. They researched key facts, and took notes detailing how the celebrations are observed and why it is important to different cultures and communities. This task supported their understanding of cultural diversity and the significance of celebrations around the world.
In Writing, our students strengthened their literacy skills by linking reading with writing, transforming their research notes into engaging presentations about their chosen celebration. They carefully selected key information and organised their ideas using both words and images. Students created posters, PowerPoint slides, or Canva presentations to showcase their learning in creative ways. These presentations were proudly shared with families at the Cultural Picnic on Tuesday 31st March.
In Maths, students continued their exploration of place value by learning how to compare and order 3- and 4-digit numbers. They used the language of 'greater than' and 'smaller than', the < and > symbols as well as placing numbers on a number line. Students engaged in a range of hands-on activities to deepen their understanding and build confidence in comparing and ordering multi-digit numbers. In a problem-solving lesson about how much money Mr Hart might have spent on Easter eggs, they applied a variety of strategies they have practised this term.
In Wellbeing, the students have continued to explore the learner attributes while working towards developing their class' Essential Agreements.
