Student Leadership

As we move towards the end of Term 1, we are proud to celebrate the leadership growth demonstrated by students across Saltwater. This term has seen the successful implementation of the Class Captain and Junior School Council (JSC) selection process, with students showing courage, responsibility and a strong commitment to representing the voices of their peers. In Year 6, students have also stepped into additional leadership roles, supporting whole-school initiatives and contributing positively to our community. We look forward to continuing to provide meaningful leadership opportunities for students across all year levels in Term 2.

Junior School Council (JSC)

Throughout the term, students from Years 1–6 participated in the Class Captain application process. This provided valuable opportunities for students to reflect on their leadership strengths, share their ideas and demonstrate student voice and agency.

Selected Class Captains were then invited to present speeches to their year level cohorts, outlining why they wished to become a Junior School Council representative. Students confidently shared their ideas about how they could represent their peers and contribute to positive change within our school.

Following these presentations, students voted for their year level representatives. We congratulate all students who nominated and presented speeches. Demonstrating courage and leadership in front of peers is a significant achievement, and we are incredibly proud of the way students embraced this process.

Additional Leadership Roles Year Six

Our Year 6 students have continued to lead by example through a range of additional leadership opportunities this term. House Captains, Wellbeing Leaders and other student leaders have supported whole-school initiatives, assisted with lunchtime programs and modelled positive behaviours in learning spaces and in the yard. Their contribution plays an important role in strengthening our school culture and building a sense of community across year levels.

Lunchtime Clubs

Towards the end of the term, structured lunchtime clubs were introduced to provide safe, engaging and inclusive opportunities for students during break times.

Clubs have been running in the gym foyer and include activities such as puzzles, chess and board games, coding, creative mindfulness activities, construction challenges and movement-based sessions such as yoga and Just Dance. These opportunities support students to build social connections, develop new skills and enjoy positive play experiences.

Year 6 student leaders have supported the organisation and facilitation of these clubs, demonstrating initiative and care for younger students.
