Student Spotlight

Student Spotlight

One of our outstanding Year 10 students, Rhiannon Trottman-Scerri, was one of 27 secondary school students from Hume presented with a Youth Opportunity Scholarship. Rhiannon is a resilient, hardworking, and respectful young person who is a very worthy recipient of the scholarship, which was presented by the Mayor. The presentation, held at the Craigieburn Global Learning Centre, had a strong Sunbury College feel, with our very own Austyn Edwards playing a key role as MC and Sienna Tonkin providing musical entertainment. Well done, Rhiannon, Austyn, and Sienna.

Take The Mic Australia

Between 400 and 600 people auditioned to perform in the Take The Mic Australia competition. From those auditions, 20 were selected as finalists, and only one winner was chosen. Congratulations to Sunbury College’s Year 12 student, Jamila Lucero, who won the Open Division 18+ over the weekend!

If you have been lucky enough to hear Jamila sing, you understand what an amazing voice she has. We are so proud of her and excited to see how this victory may lead to new opportunities and experiences in her singing career. Jamila had never competed in anything like this before and is thrilled to be the opening act for an upcoming performance as part of her prize. Jamila is also one of the lead cast members in this year’s High School Musical Production at Sunbury College later this term.

School Sport Australia games

Congratulations to Taliah Kelly, who is competing in softball at the inaugural School Sport Australia Games! The achievement of being selected for the Student Spotlight Under 18 Softball Team is remarkable. It is a great honor to have a Sunbury student reach such an elite level in softball. Well done, Taliah!

Oceania Football Confederation (OFC)

Isaiah has gone to an overseas Football (Soccer) competition known as the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) and is competing with his nation Samoa. Isaiah and the Samoan team won their first game, beating New Caledonia in an amazing 2-0 victory. Isaiah assisted Samoa’s second goal with an incredible pass. We are all sending our best wishes to Isaiah and his team for the rest of the tournament. GO SAMOA!

Jersey Designing

We are very proud to celebrate one of our Year 10 students, Brodey Baginski-Charles. Recently Brodey designed the jersey that would be worn by the Diggers Rest Football Club during NAIDOC Week 2024. Brodie is a proud Indigenous young man who wanted to represent the native Kookaburra mascot and its footsteps, travelling to games and sitting with teammates on the bench with his design. Well done Brodey, it is fantastic to see you representing your culture so proudly.
