Year 9 and 10

Term 3 has started well for Middle School students with a number of events and programs for Year 9 and 10 students.

Year 9s have begun their Naarm Excursion Program with great student involvement and enjoyment. So far the year 9s have visited the Icehouse to test their ice skating prowess, Old Melbourne Gaol and experienced some eye opening education on the history of Melbourne, Melbourne SkyDeck to engage with some unique mathematical perceptions on angles and the MCG to see an iconic landmark of Australian sporting personality. Ms. Polonidis has been busily preparing and planning for this event for some time, it has been wonderful to see the excitement and maturity by our Year 9s as they embark on these experiences each week.

Later in the Term the Year 9s will engage in an ‘Amazing Race’, which is a unique opportunity to travel around the city and engage in challenges that are set to help build their problem solving competencies, group work skills, and resilience. This is the pinnacle of our Naarm program and a lot of students come away with new skills and confidence when needing to travel and move around the CBD. We are looking forward to seeing our students continue to engage so positively in the program.

Year 10s have had a busy period focusing on their subject selections and outlining pathway and career choices. It is never easy deciding future pathways at such a young age, so our Year 10s are to be commended on their engagement and independence in finding crucial information to help make informed decisions. We now move into the period of the year where we begin our VCE VM application process and interviews. During this time we encourage all applicants to be as prepared as they possibly can be and treat this interview process like they would if they were going for a job interview.

Year 10s are also preparing for their Formal at the end of term. The event permission and payments are due on 9th September. We encourage all students to discuss this opportunity with their parents/guardians and make sure all attendance permissions are submitted before the closing date. Any queries regarding the Year 10 Formal should be directed to Ms. Fitzgerald.

As Term 3 progresses, we encourage our Middle School students to continue showing their strong work ethic and commitment to the College values. The Middle School team prides itself on being a key driver in students establishing their future career planning and self identity, so we are very excited to discuss and see the pathways and subjects our cohort are choosing.
