Sporting Stars

Over the last two weekends two of our students participated in Athletics Victoria events with great success.

Siorcha Creaton (Year 9) competed in the All Schools Cross Country Championships and ran an amazing race to finish 4th out of 58 runners and earn a spot on the Victorian team to compete at the National Championships later this year.

Emily Smith (Year 7) competed in the All Schools Race Walking Championships and recorded an impressive 20 second PB to win a silver medal.

Congratulations to both girls on your fantastic achievements.

SCSA Cross Country

Last Tuesday our eager runners headed out to Yarra Bend to compete in the Division 1 competition of the SCSA Cross Country. With a top of 12 and rain forecast it was not looking like a fun day for running but after weeks of early morning and lunchtime training (for some) behind them they were up for the challenge. The juniors were the first off and as they started to run the rain came down, making the already tough hill a little slippery and even more of an obstacle. They all ran very well with Year 7 students Stella Mackay (14th) and Charlene Palatino (18th) finishing in the top 20 and the team finishing 6th.

While the rain had stopped the course was altered to avoid the now muddy hill for the intermediates and it was a great race for Kilbreda with Siorcha Creaton running an amazing race and absolutely dominating the event from the start to win by almost 35 seconds – well done Siorcha. The intermediate team also did a great job in a very tough competition to finish in 7th place.

The rain came down once again as the seniors headed off but our girls were superb and battled on with 3 top 20 finishes – Taylah Ercalano (13th), Natalie Meyer (14th) and Chloe Keating (19th) to finish in 4th position. Special mention to Year 12 student Taylah who after 2 knee reconstructions represented Kilbreda in Cross Country for the very first time. Congratulations to all the girls for your efforts in the lead up to and on the day. With a 5th place finish overall (out of 19 schools), you should all be so proud of your efforts.

SCSA Hockey

On Friday 21 June 24 students participated in the SCSA Hockey competition at Essendon Hockey Club. The initial forecast was not looking promising but it turned out to be a glorious day.

The other schools participating were Sacred Heart Girls College Geelong; Mater Christi College Belgrave; Academy College Fitzroy. The seniors lost 2-0 to Academy and then lost 3-0 to Mater Christi. The Junior team narrowly lost to all three teams. Both teams had new goalies for each game: many thanks to Alyssa Mulcahy, Hannah Yates, Nina Del Sasso, Eve Libbis Terrell and Holly Mc Donald who all had a go in goals throughout the day.

Congratulations to the following girls for participating in the SCSA Hockey team for 2019:

Polly McCartney, Llelarni Mitchell, Hannah Yates, Alyssa Mulcahy, Mia Gray, Natalie Meyer, Phoebe Linscheer, Olivia Cooper, Olivia Andrew, Holly Boltwood, Sienna Hoult, Chloe Cronin, Alice Merchant, Holly McDonald, Eve Libbis Terrell, Nina Del Sasso, Erin Carroll, Alexia Ritzert, Brylee Roberts, Alex Graham, Michaela Meyer, Alicia Meo, Sienna Fawcett, Sonia Clough.

VCC Basketball

On Wednesday 12 June a group of junior basketballers headed off to Dandenong to compete in the first round of the Victorian College Championships. The girls played some exceptional basketball to win every game including the grandifinal by over 20 points to progress to the state finals on Tuesday 25 June.

With Hannah heading to Spain as part of the Victorian team the finals day was always going to be a tough competition as we competed against the top secondary schools basketball teams in the state. The girls played their hearts out all day and managed to make the Grand Final. Unfortunately we ran out of legs and Berwick came away with the championship. Congratulations to the girls for your amazing team play and tireless effort throughout the day - 2nd in the state is a fantastic achievement!

Congratulations to the following girls:

Neve Lamb, Meghna Vinodhram, Sophie O’Hara, Ella Razga, Hannah Wickstrom, Summer Keating, Lauren Westwood, Jacinta Boyd.
