Year 7

On behalf of the Year 7 Homeroom Teachers and myself, I would like to congratulate all Year 7s for making it through their first semester of secondary school! There have been new friendships, changed friendships, laughter and sometimes tears as students have adjusted to the challenges and rewards of secondary school. All students should be proud of their efforts and I hope you thoroughly enjoy a much-needed rest over the holidays. The next two weeks will provide a wonderful opportunity to reflect on your successes and challenges, considering how you can adapt your habits and continue developing your organisational, social and study skills learnt in the first semester of your secondary school journey.

Congratulations to all award recipients. They have worked cooperatively to achieve goals, shown respect for self and others, inspired and motivated their peers, and helped to promote a culture of school pride and belonging. Those that have been involved in a range of extra curricular activities, we thank you for your dedication, commitment and willingness to share your talents with us. It is a truly outstanding effort.

Travelling on Public Transport

Travelling on public transport is one of the most convenient ways to travel. Students are expected to demonstrate courtesy, respect and consideration of others whilst travelling to and from school on public transport.

Helpful tips for ways to keep safe while waiting for a train, bus or tram, getting on or off, and while in transit, are provided on the PTV and Victoria Police websites.

The following is advice taken from the Victoria Police website (transit and public safety). “If your personal safety is threatened when you are on public transport you can:"

· If you are being harassed - Tell the person to stop what they are doing in a loud and assertive voice so they become the centre of attention

· Consider moving somewhere else or closer to other passengers

· Report the person – Tell the driver or public transport staff who can contact police

· Trust your instincts – Do what you feel will improve your safety and make you feel more comfortable
