Think Tank Finalists

Challengers meet the Minister

On Friday, 21 May our enthusiastic Think Tank finalists made their way to the Water Corporation Offices, Leederville to compete for the $500 prize of school resources and ultimate think tank glory.

Climate Canons Angela George, Ruth Tlumang, Chhavi Chavan, Izumi Carmelia, Riya Raheja, Akshita Minhas, Sharie Fernandez and Nainpreet Kaur had fine-tuned their presentation on a household water saving device and were ready to take on the challenging schools. It was an honour to be greeted by the Hon Dave Kelly BA MLA, Minister for Water, Forestry and Youth (pictured above) and hear from Pat Donovan, CEO of the Water Corporation.

Out of the 180 students involved in this event, we could not have been prouder of our students. The other seven school finalists were Girrawheen Senior High School, Mount Lawley Senior High School, Fremantle College, Rossmoyne Senior High School, Peter Moyes Anglican Community School, Bunbury Senior High School and Great Southern Grammar Albany. All competing schools had excellent ideas to the challenge statement Water – Only Use What You Need and we congratulate Fremantle College on their excellent tap design win.

The St Norbert College community should be so proud of our team who were gracious in defeat yet hungry for the next challenge. The team has made some great new friends from competing schools. Thank you to Mr Michael Openshaw for his assistance in the week leading up to the event and supporting the team on the day and to Milvia Daniels from the Water Corporation for this excellent opportunity to work with real world providers tackling real world problems.
