Student Ministry

Year 9 Retreat, Winter Appeal, Ring pulls for Wheelchair for Kids and Lids for Kids

Student Ministry is running two  small programs aimed at assisting charity groups locally and overseas.

Ring Pulls for Wheelchair Kids

Please save and bring into Student Ministry the ring pulls off cans. The aluminium recycled from these ring pulls is used to make wheelchairs for kids throughout the world in need.  We proudly want to support this charity who, since its inception in 1998  have provided over 46,000 wheelchairs to more than 90 locations across the globe, giving children that were previously confined to a life of crippling inequality a life changing new level of independence and mobility.

Lids for Kids

Student Ministry are collecting  milk bottle and water/soft drink bottle lids for Lids for kids. The plastic used from these items can then be made into  prosthetic limbs for children all over the world.

Please ensure all lids are washed before bringing them into Student Ministry.

Winter Appeal

The Student Ministry is running our annual Winter  Appeal, supporting the St Vincent de Paul Society and the Shopfront. We are looking for donations of used winter clothing and bedding, new socks and non- perishable food items including canned food, pasta, rice, long life milk, tea and coffee and well as hygiene items such as toothpaste, sanitary items, deodorant etc.

Our target is 1500 items. So far we have nearly 400 items! Please give generously to this appeal and make the cold winter easier for people in need across our community.

Year 9 Retreat

Thank you to the Youth Mission Team for a wonderful reflective Year 9 retreat.

Here are some reflections from our students:

The games and activities were fun, taught me more that God can help us through difficult times.  Stories shared were interesting inspiring.

Georgia D'Monte

I thought it went pretty alright. I am not one for faith or relationships but the day went really well for me. The games were fun and the people from YMT were nice to be around and talk to as well. I don't have a lot of close friends in my grade and I'm mostly by myself.

But the YMT has inspired me to strengthen my relationship with God and it's comforting knowing that He's a friend of ours.

Chelsea Incocencio

The retreat was overall pretty swell. The activities as a year level in our bigger groups were simple yet fun, and the same could be said for when we were in our smaller groups. The YMT group were funny and held our attention well, while still teaching us a lot about our relationship with God and others.

Abner Silveira

I think that the retreat was very impactful and showed me the realisation of how others can impact us and how it's easy to tear others down but it's harder to rebuild them. I feel like the retreat somewhat helped and made me see God in a new perspective and also helped my relationship with God. They also told us some very personal things about their lives which I think a lot of people really appreciated. To summarise the day up I feel like it was a fun day and I’m glad that I got to listen to YMT for sharing their stories and for helping people understand what their relationship is with God.

Josiah Webb

I really enjoyed the retreat as it was fun and had lot of activities and had me reflecting on me and my relationships. My favourite part was the activity where we sat around in a circle and one person had called out something and had to run to another spot. I also liked getting into my small groups and doing the paper activity and the play-do activity
