 SCSA Tennis

On Thursday 10 March, the SCSA Tennis team travelled to Boroondara to compete in the Division 2 SCSA competition. The day consisted of 30-minute matches for the junior, intermediate and senior teams, playing doubles and singles. The day was full of determination, hard work and teamwork; where each and every student who represented the College thrived. Towards the end, the scoreboard showed that the Junior team, as well as the Intermediate team, with great skill, managed to get through to the semi-finals. Unluckily the Senior team who fought valiantly didn't manage to scrape through, and the day was over.

In reflection, the day was a great success, where each student who participated learned from mistakes and persevered through challenges that are carried throughout life.

SCSA Indoor Cricket

The 2022 SCSA Indoor Cricket tournament was held on Wednesday 16 March at the Box Hill Indoor Sports Centre. After an outstanding performance by our College in the Division 2 competition last year, this year we were faced with the challenge of Division 1 and without a doubt, we stepped up to the plate and came out with awesome results!

Each and every one of the Kilbreda  girls who participated across all year levels, gave the competition their best shot and it was so great to see the continuous support, determination and 100% effort given by each of our cricket superstars!

Junior Team:

The Junior Team coached by Ms Smith, put up an amazing fight across the whole day, especially considering the majority of them had never even played before! They started off strong with a win, followed by two losses, putting them in 4th place overall. However, even though they were heading into their final game as the underdogs, the team smashed out the game, making their highest score of 70 runs to win the game! This just shows the 110% effort the girls gave continually throughout the day! Congratulations Ocienne Farquharson, Mia Kelly, Lucy Wintle Frankie Kinna, Matilda Harrison, Alexis Mulcahy, Lily Barclay, Brooke Gebbing, Bella Constante and Isha Gurung

Intermediate Team:

The Intermediate Team coached by Ms Baddeley, unfortunately lost their first game. However, the girls did not give up and went on to win their second and third games, meaning they finished 3rd overall! Although they didn’t win their final, the team showed a massive improvement throughout the day!

Congratulations Bailee Drew, Bridget Koczek, Charlotte Hay Amelia Hart, Jasmine Perry, Rielly O’Loughlin, Alyssa Sheedy, Jacinta Boyd and Halani Davutovic.

Senior Team:

The Senior Team, coached by Ms Carroll, also started the day off with a loss. However, they went on to win their next two games placing them in 2nd place and into the grand final. After making only 36 runs in the first innings of the final, our team regrouped and managed to keep the opposition to 0 runs and secure the premiership win! The team improved out of sight across the day and our determination really paid off!

A big shout out to Year 10 students, Emma Allen and Jacinta Boyd, who had to step up and fill in for the Senior Team throughout the day - they were amazing! Another shoutout to Mia Perrin who was awarded MVP in the grand final match!

Because of the awesome effort throughout the day and the premiership win, the Senior Team will now progress onto the next round of the inter school competition later in the year to battle it out again for another victory! Congratulations Erin Carroll,, Mia Perrin, Bridget Skadiang, Summer Keating, Maya Dear, Sian Napier, Alexandra Strom and Emma Allan.

All of the students who participated throughout the day should be very proud of themselves because they were all amazing and most importantly all had fun!

I can’t wait to hear about how Kilbreda will go again next year!

After weeks of training the team heads off tonight to try and better their 2nd place finish last year (our highest finish in a long time - maybe ever!). We congratulate all students for their commitment to the morning sessions and wish them all the best. Thank you to those students who jumped into events at the last minute.

Umpiring Course at Kilbreda

The girls have enjoyed learning the various skills involved in umpiring AFL Football. They have gained confidence in blowing the whistle and making the calls of "dropping the ball”; “trip”; “high tackle” and “throw in”.  They have two sessions left where they will learn the skills of a boundary umpire and goal umpire.

Hopefully some of these students will go onto umpire at the local level. We have been given the opportunity to umpire AFL Auskick games at the MCG and Marvel Stadium. More details to follow in the next newsletter.

The next two sessions are:

Wednesday 23 March (1.45pm to 2.45pm) Wednesday 30 March (3.30pm to 4.30pm).
