MUNA
Model United Nations Assembly
Year 8 students Alannah D and Mahdis S were the MGSC delegates, representing Ethiopia, at this year's MUNA - Model United Nations Assembly. They have taken out the Rotary 9820 Peace Shield and a $100 prize for their efforts.
They prepared for weeks at lunchtimes prior to the event. They wrote opening speeches and anticipating arguments and challenges. Forming alliances with other countries is an important tactic during the event to ensure voting success. Year 7 and year 8 debate students assisted with research and building their skills. Traditional dress added authenticity to the day.
On the day, the assembly runs similarly to the real United Nations Assembly with delegates speaking for and against several resolutions. Three resolutions were debated:
- Climate Change
- Violence against Women and Girls and
- Space Governance
We gratefully acknowledge the support from the Mordialloc Rotary club for again sponsoring our students. Congratulations Alannah and Mahdis.
