FIRE Carrier Commissioning Ceremony

I was honoured to share a very special occasion last week with our FIRE Carrier student representatives. We spent the day immersed in our First Nation culture, learning about how we can continue to carry the Indigenous heritage and customs so that it is not lost.

We shared a ceremony with the other schools within our cluster; St Augustines, St Johns, St Josephs, John Paul College, St Judes and St Annes.

Rosie and Tomo proudly and confidently read our school's pledge to continue to educate and empower our community.

We then participated in an Indigenous cooking experience where we made wattleseed scones and enjoyed eating these with a delicious cup of lemon myrtle tea. We decorated Mana gum leaves which will be transformed into a collective art piece with the cluster schools. We spent some time looking at Indigenous plants and then planted native seeds into homemade biodegradable pots to take home.

Finally, we hopped on a bus and travelled to Hastings where we visited the Willum Warrain Cultural Centre. We were greeted by some Aboriginal educators, heard stories, participated in a cleansing smoking ceremony and held a possum cloak. This was such a highlight that I encourage everyone in our community to visit this special place. I have added the link below.
