Principal's Report

Welcome to Term 3

Welcome back to another exciting and busy term at McCarthy. As always Term 3 brings with it the final academic term for Year 12's, as well as beginning the conversation and discernment for Year 10's who consider their course options for Year 11 2020. I encourage all Year 12 and Year 10 families to keep up-to-date with the Event Calendar in the Newsletters and the McCarthy Facebook page as there are many important dates and deadlines to be met across the coming weeks. Similarly, we are moving towards our Annual Walkathon in Week 7 and the students are keen to continue their support of families affected by the drought in partnership with the St Vincent de Paul Society. Sponsorship forms will be heading home next week. The Year 11 and 12's have suggested that rather than attempt to get financial support from already cash-strapped local families and businesses that we contact Catholic school communities in city areas so that their urban communities can make a contribution as a practical sign of solidarity between city and country Catholic communities. Stay tuned for more details and in the meantime, reach out to your friends and relatives in the cities so that they too can choose to support a truly worthwhile cause.

Year 10 Ski Trip

The Year 10 group have just returned from a wonderful trip to the snow and by all reports had the most amazing weather with quality snow runs and beautiful sunny weather. I commend the hard work of Mrs Michelle Gale who planned and led the tour, as well as the volunteer staff who supervised the students on the ski fields and at night in and around the accommodation facilities. Well done to all involved!

Staff News

With a few of staff on leave at the moment I acknowledge the professionalism and generosity of those staff who have volunteered to step up into acting roles for periods of time this term.

Mrs Mel Lees (Acting Leader of Learning Science - 3 weeks)

Mrs Mel Thompson (Acting Leader of Student Care Year 11 - 2 weeks)

Ms Rebecca Hannan (Acting Leader of Student Care Year 8 - 5 weeks).

We also welcome Mrs Natalie Deacon back after a period of maternity leave.

HSC Trials

Good luck to our Year 12 students as they enter the Trials period. After many months of hard work and preparation these exams begin the ‘third leg’ of the journey from Preliminary Year, HSC School-Based Assessments and on into the full HSC Exams in Term 4. We wish them well and trust that those who have been meticulous and dedicated in their preparations are rewarded accordingly. Thank you also to the generous and talented staff who offered many hours of their break time to deliver HSC Workshops over the recent student vaccation period.

Welcome

We welcome the following students to the McCarthy community: Blake Wicks (Year 7), Zelia Kleidon (Year 8), Bella Moujalli (Year 7) and Marlani Davis (Year 7).  As a community, we hope that their transition has been a smooth one and that they are enjoying the McCarthy community.
