Achina Vearing (Year 10) recently earned 3rd place in the U16 G 50m freestyle event at the State Schools Victoria (SSV) State Swimming Championships.

In Term 1,  Achina achieved 1st place in the 50m freestyle at both the District and Regional SSV Championships to qualify for the State Finals, becoming Brunswick Secondary College’s first State swimming representative in over 10 years.

With a fantastic swim at the prestigious Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, Achina collected her bronze medal – well deserved given the commitment, determination and  hard work she has invested to achieve excellence in her sport.

Achina is a  role model for sport at Brunswick Secondary College. Throughout her years here, Achina has represented the school across a number of different sports including athletics, cross country and netball. Congratulations on an excellent achievement, Achina!

Jazz Melbourne Success

Congratulations to Charlie Rolfe (Year 10) who successfully auditioned for a place in the prestigious 2021 Jazz Melbourne Youth Band Program.

Charlie will be involved in this year long initiative that brings together students from across Victoria and focuses on promoting jazz education within Australia.

Charlie had to negotiate a blind audition process to be considered for this placement, and his success will see him perform piano in the youth band.

Only the most proficient musicians earn a place in the Youth Band Program, and working alongside his peers Charlie will continue to develop and extend his already marked talent - as well as enjoy many opportunities to perform with them throughout the year.

Well done Charlie - you have earned this recognition due to effort, persistence and commitment to excellence in your music studies!
