Message from the Principal
School Life
Beginning with the Athletics Carnival, this term has been very busy and successful.
Including Year 7 & Year 9 NAPLAN testing, Year 9 Morrisby Interview Sessions (read more about these sessions HERE), the Year 12 Career Expo along with interschool sport, camps, the school musical and other cocurricular activities and initiatives, there has been much activity and many positive learning outcomes achieved. Our school continues to be a dynamic and exciting place to learn.
Understandably, the latest call to lockdown has required some re-focus and re-organisation of classes and events in the short-term, however given past experience and performance, and a positive approach, I am confident that staff and students will manage admirably.
I take this opportunity to thank the BSC community for its ongoing support, understanding and optimistic attitude through this period.
Respectful Relationships
The Respectful Relationships Program promotes respect, positive attitudes and behaviours. It is designed to teach our students how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence.
The program is mandated for inclusion in the school curriculum and has been implemented at BSC via the Home Group system. The program is well resourced with different year levels provided with age-appropriate lessons and activities to support strong learning outcomes.
Principals Conference
The Hume/Moreland area Principal Conference provided the opportunity for the BSC Principal Team to participate in professional learning and reflect on the improvement initiatives in our own strategic plan.
The main presenter at this years conference was the Canadian born educator Lee Crockett. Lee focussed his sessions on Learner Agency which is the essence of students being given more autonomy for their learning and students having a greater influence on curriculum development. Many of Lee’s provocations resonated with our team and the type of work we want to move towards in the latter half of this year and next year, which will be the final year of our current strategic plan.
School Productions
The 2021 Senior Musical Production, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, was staged earlier this term. The show was a delight - delivering stellar performances both on- and off-stage! Audiences were treated to an intimate show in the school theatre, and enjoyed every minute of it.
Read my comment on The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee later in this edition. The article includes some fabulous photos of the show.
The musical was just the first major production for the year. We look forward to being entertained at the Chamber Concert (June 8), Performing Arts Gala ( August 1), Drama Production Masquerade (August 19 & 20), Junior Production (November 4/5) and the many performance showcase events scheduled for the remainder of 2021.
Be sure to check Compass Newsfeed and/or the BSC Calendar for details of these events.

Greening Up:
Wicking Bed Update
Last edition we reported on the installation of our Herb Garden Wicking Bed - a VCAL project designed to provide an ongoing supply of herbs for use in practical Food Studies classes.
I am pleased to say that the project is booming - here is a photo to show you the progress! There are plans afoot to expand on this project, so along with the other fabulous sustainability initiatives that you will read about in this edition, we look forward to seeing the garden grow!
