Kedem – a Jewish community as a village

Dear Jewish Families,

We are writing to let you know about this lovely Jewish community and invite you to explore.

Here is a quote from one of our members:

‘Kedem is not so much a synagogue as a community: the village with whom we raise our children, the people with whom we celebrate and mourn, the place we find like-minded people who share Jewish values of learning, caring and joy.

I grew up in a traditional Orthodox shul but I wanted my children to grow up in a place where their Jewish lives were egalitarian, meaningful and genuine. I was pregnant when Kedem was founded and my son’s life can be traced from breast-feeding under a tallit, to clearing away Lego when the Torah was coming around. Kedem is relaxed and informal. Each person can put their stamp on things, for example we created a Bar Mitzvah for my son that was meaningful to his individuality and relevant to the world we live in. I know that I have given him an experience he wants to pass on to his children.’

Kedem came into existence through progressive Jewish families who wanted a more organic expression of Jewish life. We have a couple of family Havdallot coming up, dates below, that we would like to invite you to – please be in touch if you are curious to come along. Everyone welcome!
