Year 9 Program

Year 9 Program Report: The Real World

Following our successful market stalls on the 8th May we concluded our topic of Community Service, leading us on to our new topic, ‘The Real World’. The topic began with us creating a career action plan, in which we discussed our aims and nightmares for the future. This assisted us in planning what subjects we might undertake in the coming years, before our upcoming meetings with Ms McCaskie, the Careers Counsellor. Following this, we created a bucket list outlining our future goals, helping us plan out what we might want to achieve in the next few years. We learnt how to write and structure a resume, and discussed tips and watched videos in order to prepare us for our mock job interviews.

In preparation for our interviews, we were required to finalise our resume, put together an appropriate outfit and bring in any other documents we felt necessary. On the days of the interviews, we were expected to arrive 15 minutes early fully clothed and prepared, to show our preparation and organisational skills and discipline. Special guests from an organisation called White Lion came to the school to run our mock interviews. The mock interviews lasted 10 minutes and consisted of a series of questions that might be asked in a real job interview. We were given feedback throughout the interview and tips as to how to better our interview and question answering skills. It was a very successful and educational experience that left us with valid feedback and information that will definitely assist us when applying for jobs in the future.
