SMR ATHLETICS

On Thursday 5 October, our squad of 47 athletes descended on Ballam Park Athletics Track to compete in the Southern Metro Region Finals. The weather was inclement, but the spirit was high as the students competed against the best athletes from our region. We had some amazing success in both the track and field with 13 athletes qualifying for State Finals in individual events.

  • Alex Koulatsos 11H: 16 boys Long Jump
  • James Spencer 11M: 17 boys 400m
  • Kevin Zhou 12N: 18-20 boys 400m
  • Finn Sharp 10N: 16 boys Javelin
  • Olin Buisman 9C: 1.5km walk
  • Alexandru Virbanescu 8I: 1.5km walk

In the Relays we had more medals with a few teams missing out on the state finals by just millimetres!

 

Congratulations to the 12-13 Boys and 16 Girls who came 3rd and the 14 Girls, 15 Boys, 17 Girls and 17 Boys who all came 2nd in very close races.

VOLLEYBALL NEWS 

The Volleyball Victoria Presentation Night was held on Sunday 8 October at Citipower Centre at Albert Park. 

 

McKinnon Volley athletes were recognised in two awards for McKinnon students. Tali Rudzki (Year 11), who plays in the McKinnon Volley Reserves Women’s 2 Blue team, received the MVP Runner up award in her division. Chloe Apps (Year 11) won the Referee Development Award for 2023 State League. Congratulations on these wonderful achievements! Also, congratulations goes to Arwen Vernik and Stephanie Baker (Our Premier players, past students, current coaches for McKinnon Volley) for receiving a Bronze medal with the Melbourne Vipers in the Australian Volleyball League.

TERM 4 VOLLEYBALL AT MCKINNON

Training is back on for Years 7, 8 & 9 development teams. State league teams will start some squad trials for 2024. School teams are training for the Victorian Junior Open Cup which will be held at Dandenong Stadium from Monday 27 November – Friday 1 December. 

 

The Year 8 Honours Boys and the Year 9 Honours Girls are preparing to go to the Australian Schools Cup on the Gold Coast on Sunday 3 – Sunday 10 December. The athletes will look to hold a Fundraising BBQ at lunchtime on Thursday 2 November at the East Campus.
