CAPTAIN'S CORNER

SENIOR CAPTAIN

As we approach the final stretch, the Year 12s begin to prepare for the cluster of activities scheduled for this week. Whether it be preparing costumes for the dress-up day, formal attire for Valedictory or last-minute additions to the highly anticipated Year 12 Assembly.

As a cohort, we have just completed our final ‘holiday’ break at McKinnon, which saw us returning back to campus in the second week, along with some Year 11s to complete a formal set of trial exams. These exams provided an essential reflection on where each of us stand in terms of revision, with the Year 12 English exam even being externally marked to give us diverse feedback compared to what we’ve been given through the year.

As our schooling journey comes to an end, we Year 12s have gradually begun to realise the importance of cherishing the memories we have of our time at McKinnon and making new positive memories in the small amount of time we have left. I encourage all the Year 12s to make the most of these final opportunities and partake in any activity possible, whether it be a walk around the campus at lunch instead of being in S-block, or even staying back at school during free periods to collaboratively work with friends. This applies not only to the Year 12s but any other senior year level too. As there might seem to be a long journey ahead but time flies by when you are having a good time.

JUNIOR CAPTAIN

I would love to welcome everyone back to a successful, hopefully warm Term 4. I hope that everyone had a safe, well-deserved break.

Term 3 ended with an incredible and fascinating event, appreciating cultural diversity; filled with food, activities and games. It was amazing to see so many students getting involved and enjoying themselves. Activities ranged from Greek dancing, henna painting, karaoke and more with participation exceeding expectations. I enjoyed walking through the East Campus ground level and seeing so many different foods and cuisines which tasted delicious. The food, having been made by students, allowed each student to bring a piece of their own culture and traditions to school and share it with our school community.

On Thursday 5 October, many of our students competed in the Regionals Athletics Day. I commend all the students who represented our school so well and I congratulate them for making it this far in the competition and those who further excelled to the State Finals. I wish them the very best and know they will do our school proud.

During the first week of Term 4, the Year 9 Duke of Ed classes set off on their two-day practice hike. They walked for around 20km on the first day before setting up their own campsite and cooking their own dinner from home brought ingredients, then walked around another 7km on the second day. They hiked through lots of rain and very cold weather but are now a step closer to completing the award.

Term 4 means that we go back to wearing the summer uniform, however, you could wear either the summer or winter uniform until Tuesday 7 November.

I wish all students an exciting and fulfilling Term 4 and the best of luck for all tests and exams to come.
