SURVEY FOR INSTRUMENTAL STUDENTS
Welcome back to term 4 - and for many students this will be the term when they undertake their performance exams.
As a faculty, we have started preparations for the 2024 year, and we ask that all Instrumental Music students complete the survey that was sent over the break of their intentions for 2024 and Instrumental Music.
VCE YEAR 12 MUSIC PERFORMANCE
Congratulations to all the VCE Year 12 Music Performance students (Contemporary & Repertoire) who came into school over the holidays to perform their recital. This was a practice run through of their final performance exam. This experience will prepare students well, as they present their final prepared pieces to VCAA examiners. All the best!

YEAR 12 THEATRE STUDIES MONOLOGUE SHOWCASE
On Monday 2 October the Year 12 Theatre Studies class presented their monologue showcase performance. Each student performed an eight-minute monologue performance, along with an intention statement explaining their interpretation and creative choices. The monologues came from a variety of unique plays, including Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit, John Fletcher & William Shakespeare's Two Noble Kinsmen, Kae Tempest's Paradise, Dennis Kelly & Tim Minchin's Matilda and Karel Čapek's R.U.R (Rossum's Universal Robots).
This was the final school performance for many of our seasoned Year 12 performers and they were delighted to share their work with their family and friends. We were also fortunate enough to welcome former McKinnon Theatre Studies teacher, Lucy Angell, along with Keira Lyons, from Camberwell Girls Grammar, as guest adjudicators for the evening, who were able to provide the students with some highly valuable feedback. The class will present their monologues for their upcoming performance exams at Kingston Town Hall on Monday 16 October.
We wish them all the very best and chookas!

PIANO BY CANDLELIGHT CONCERT
On Wednesday 4 October, McKinnon’s Piano by Candlelight concert was held in the Main Campus auditorium. The concert was a chance for McKinnon to celebrate the abilities of its pianists. I was one of nine auditioned performers, and there were pianists from Year 7 to Year 12, as well as music from a wide range of genres.
The concert was a wonderful event, as each performer played while candles lit up the piano and illuminated the space. The music itself was also spectacular, because every pianist’s piece was special and entertaining, whether a classical piece or a video-game soundtrack.
Overall, it was a sensational concert organised by Ms Vrisk, with sound and lighting design by Michael Birkett and photography by Caleb Goldwaser. The audience was treated to a fabulous night which I’m sure they will all remember.

Thank you to all the students who made it to the main campus early for their performance of the March to Nowhere by Vaclav Nelhybel. Thank you also to Jessica Silberthau (Year 9) and Jessica Sweeney (Year 9) who performed the National Anthem at the start of the assembly.
