This Girl Can Week

(March 22 – 28)

This week it is 'This Girl Can' week. 'This Girl Can' is an empowering campaign designed to inspire women to get more physically active – however, wherever and whenever they choose, without being judged. It is a VicHealth campaign aiming to increase physical activity among Victorian women. It focuses on less active women and supports gender equality by challenging traditional gender roles and stereotypes in sport and by celebrating women.

At our College we always try to encourage our girls to get involved and have a go, particularly with physical activity. Newly-released VicHealth research suggests that during 2020 and the Coronavirus pandemic, women’s physical activity levels were more severely impacted than men’s, with half of Victorian women exercising less than before Coronavirus and three in four women stopping sport.

'This Girl Can' week is the perfect time to get back into physical activity. There’s no judgement if you haven’t exercised in a while; all that matters is that you give it another go! Maybe now is the time for you and your family to increase the amount of physical activity that you are doing. 'This Girl Can' has a huge range of free online home workout sessions which can be viewed anytime at thisgirlcan.com.au.

Year 8 Lifesaving

Over several lessons this term, our Year 8 Physical Educationclasses have been undertaking their Lifesaving program.

We are incredibly fortunate to have access to Mentone Lifesaving Club and their experienced instructors who have taken our students through very important lifesaving and beach awareness skills, such as learning about rips and currents. And, of course, the fun practical elements of the program which have included flags, wading, rescue tubes and boards!

The weather hasn’t always been kind to us this term; regardless, our girls have been enthusiastic and made the most of the amazing opportunity that we have, to get down to the beach during our Physical Education classes due to our fabulous bayside location!
