SCSA Tennis

Numerous lunchtime trials were held on the College courts to determine the final SCSA Tennis squad for 2021.  After an early morning departure the girls were ready to compete at Boroondara Tennis Centre on Thursday 11 March. The SCSA Tennis competition is a round-robin event with Junior, Intermediate and Senior teams competing.  Each team consists of a singles player and an A and B doubles pairing.

The Junior and Intermediate teams finished just outside the top four, narrowly missing a spot in the semi-finals. The Senior team was undefeated on the day winning their Grand Final!

A big congratulations to Saffron Worsley (Year 10) who won Best Senior singles player.  Also congratulations to Ashleigh Clark and Lola Vuletic (Year 12) who dominated the Senior A doubles competition only losing two games across the entire day.  Having competed every year during their time at Kilbreda, it was a very satisfying win for Ashleigh and Lola and great to see them carry the winner’s plaque!

Well done to all players for their dedication and efforts.

SCSA Indoor Cricket

Recently, the Senior Indoor Cricket team filled with excitement headed out onto court for their first match and after a strong first pairing of Alice and Erin (36) went on to win the game against Santa Maria, 74-36.

The second game saw Bridget and Mia take control with a commanding performance of 29 with the bat and while this was the closest game of the day, the team still ran out winners by 22 runs against Academy.

The third game against Mercy with Ollie and Steph (33) and Maya and Sian (20) batting strongly, saw this game dominated by an ever increasing confidence by some of the rookies and they won convincingly 90-36.

The final pool game against CLC was the biggest win of the day, with a dominant display with both bat and ball by all players with the final score being 111-31. This would be the team that the girls faced off in the grand final.

While some nerves were on display the girls steadied and put a total of 60 runs on the board which was the lowest score they had made all day. However, in the second innings when the girls were bowling, and they really hit their stride, Steph managed to snare herself a hat trick and defended the ball against the back net to not only help the girls defeat CLC 60-25 and win the premiership but she was also awarded best player of the grand final.

Last Tuesday on 16 March, a team of Year 8 students were taken down to Box Hill for an Indoor Cricket tournament. At 7:30am our bus was set to leave for the Indoor sports centre. The drive there felt extremely long considering we were all still tired and waking up.

By 8.15am we were at the venue and when we got there we all put our bags down and began to warm up. We practised our bowling, batting and fielding. We also had a team huddle to discuss tactics and strategies. Our first game started at 9.00am and we were playing Santa Maria. Unfortunately, we lost 74-59. Our second game was against Academy, we won...36 to 87! Our third game was played against Mercy, we won again 34-66. Our fourth and closest game was against CLC and we also won, 61-88. Winning three out of four games secured us a place in the grand final. At 1.00pm we were ready to play CLC again in the final. We were so hyped and nervous all at the same time. We were all very determined to win! The final score for the grand final was 58-59! It was so close, a really well-played game but unfortunately, we just lost! It was sad and unlucky but overall it was such an amazing day and an awesome experience!

Juniors: Bridget, Olivia, Charlotte, Amelia, Felicity, Jessica, Sarah, Jasmine, Teagan and Bailee.

Bailee Drew

Year 8

It was a successful day at the Box Hill Indoor Sports Centre. The team were very competitive and confident after winning their first 2 matches against Santa Maria and Academy. Rounds three and four proved to be challenging with Mercy and CLC performing extremely well under pressure, putting us at two wins and two losses at the end of round four. Despite this outcome, the team showed great persistence and determination throughout the day. The team placed 3rd overall after a convincing win against Santa Maria.

Well done to the following students on their participation and effort:

Violet, Emma, Ella, Jessie, Jacinta, Leah, Alexandra, Halani, Jade, Mia and Mackenzie.

House Swimming Carnival

Unfortunately due to the forecast for inclement weather we were unable to hold our House Swimming Carnival this week.

The House Athletics Carnival will be held at Duncan McKinnnon Reserve on Friday 30 April and we look forward to a fantastic event.

SCSA Swimming and Diving Competition

The Division 1 SCSA Swimming and Diving competition is being held tonight (Thursday 25 March). The team have been training hard for this event and we wish them all the best for the carnival.

House Leaders 2021

This week we introduce our remaining House Leaders for 2021:

Ashleigh Clark

Delany House Leader

This year I was lucky enough to be positioned as one of Delany’s House Leaders for 2021. I play tennis and netball outside of school but that hasn’t stopped me from participating in the numerous sporting events the College has to offer. Since Year 7 I have been a part of tennis, triathlon, badminton, swimming, softball, netball and athletics teams. I am so excited to lead the Delany girls this year!!

Bridgette Gilley

Tullow House Leader

I’m a Tullow House Leader this year and I’m so excited for another great year of House fun! I’ve participated in heaps of fun sports at Kilbreda like netball and badminton and I can’t wait to see you all participate too this year and make up for last year!

Umpiring Course

The girls have covered Field and Goal Umpiring skills over the last two weeks. They have practised various football game scenarios and have had to remember the appropriate arm/ foot and hand signals to inform other umpires on the ground, the players and the supporters in the stands. The girls really enjoyed the goal umpire skills of 'waving the flags'.

The girls have been invited to participate in the umpiring of the Auskick games at the MCG this Sunday 28 March during halftime of the Hawthorn vs Richmond match. We hope Ewa and Helena Slifierz, Shelby Christopher and Sian Francis enjoy the experience of umpiring on the MCG in front of a large crowd and some very excited junior Auskickers!

House Beep Test Challenge

Each day last week we had the House Beep Test challenge. The Year 12 House Leaders set up the event and for some of the year levels this was very well attended.
