Year 3/4 News

PBL

Over the past week, students have been writing their own Acknowledgement of Country. This was to help them recognise the importance of recognising the original custodians of the land and why acknowledging our First Nations people is important. We got students to write an Acknowledgement of Country for their home so that they could connect to the nature and land around them. This task was designed so students would understand the importance of showing respect to the Aboriginal Traditional Owners of the land, especially where a meeting or event is held.

Michael Salmon Visit

In honour of Book Week on Tuesday 24th August, the Year 3/4 students were fortunate to have a ‘virtual’ visit from guest author and illustrator, Michael Salmon. The students participated in a working session, in which they listened and interacted with Michael, as well as joined in on some illustrating as well.

Lola from 3/4K was selected to draw a caricature of Michael. Ava (3/4B), along with Julian had their pictures drawn by Michael during the session.

The 3/4 students really enjoyed this author visit and learnt some valuable drawing skills to take into the future. One of our students, Joseph (3/4K), was inspired by our session with Michael Salmon and decided to draw his own cartoon drawing. Bravo! See below.

Pyjama Friday

To celebrate the end of Book Week last week, students (and teachers) had a pyjama dress up on Friday 27th August. Students enjoyed attending their zoom meetings in the comfort of their pyjamas, onesies and 'oodies', and sharing their favourite storybook at their shared lunch.
