Chess

The Interhouse Chess Competition has progressed to the semi-finals, with the grand final to be played next week. To recognise the significance of this game in determining the school chess champion, it will be played on the outdoor chessboard with the large chess pieces.

Last week our College Chess Team played against Marian Catholic College from Griffith. Brayden Collins, Owen Ranby, Teddy Leah and Jaiden Cherian played with great focus and strategy to achieve a win for every game. Having progressed to the next round of Country Schools Chess Competition, the team will be playing Border Christian College next week.

Tournament of Minds

There were more than 30 applications submitted by students to participate in TOM this year. Once again the quality and creativity was outstanding, making the selection process quite difficult for the team of teachers and it was with great difficulty that we finalised the number down to just 14.

Congratulations to our two teams of students:

Quinntesaa Sankar, Felicity Bacon, Brooke Graham, Olivia Harding, Diya Bhengra, Elizabeth Buckley and Alethea Levy

Amelia Stanton, Aurelia Paton, Lincoln Bowcher, Karin Rezkalla, Vinudi Rathnayaka, Dionisa Gendy and Jaiden Cherian

They are now working hard through two lunchtimes a week to solve the STEM and Language Literacy challenges that they have chosen. A big thank you to Miss Belinda Siebert and Ms Kelly Shaw for volunteering to guide these teams through the competition.

ICAS

This year the College has decided to register all students in the upper classes for English, Mathematics and Science from Years 7 to 10 to participate in the ICAS competitions. An email should have gone home to parents of all students in these classes with the details.

If your child is not in one of these classes and would like to also participate, please email me by Tuesday 27 July.

Digital Technologies and Writing ICAS competitions are also available. If you would like your child to enter one of these competitions, please email me by Tuesday 27 July so that I can ensure they are registered.

All of the ICAS Competitions will be held during August.
