Interschools Equestrian

On the 4-8 June, five students entered the North West Interschools Equestrian Competition at Coonabarabran;

Zoe Willis

Grace Brabin

Lilli Heffernan

Amelia Mathews

Sophie Thorley

The College team participated in a variety of equestrian-based events and came home with a swag of ribbons and trophy rugs. Zoe Willis won Reserve Champion 13yr old girls and Age Sporting Champion.

A highlight of the competition for the girls was the coveted and hotly contested Team Barrel race with over 40 school teams competing for the title – our team of Amelia Mathews, Sophie Thorley and Zoe Willis placed 7th – only hundredths of a second between them and first place.

Along with the Team Barrel event, we entered a team into the Team Hunt (another hotly contested event) where four riders ride in sections of 1’s, 2’s, and then 4’s over set jumps and must ride in unison together. This event has been won by the same schools for many years. The College team of Sophie Thorley, Zoe Willis, Grace Brabin and Lilli Heffernan surprised everyone and came home with 2nd place.

A big thank you must go to Mrs Vanessa Thorley for leading and managing the team during the competition. Vanessa is a passionate parent who wanted to expose students to the sport of equestrian. Vanessa and her family donated equestrian equipment to the College so that the team could look unified and more established as a school during the competition and to use in future competitions. The College greatly appreciates the effort of Mrs Thorley to encourage College families to participate in equestrian-based sporting activities and to introduce this sport into the College sports program.

CIS Cross Country

Congratulations to the following students who represented the College and RAS at the CIS Cross Country late in Term 2;

Emily Browne

Quinntessa Sankar

Grace Cooper

Holly Roach

Annabel Roach

Owen Ranby

The event was located at the Sydney Motorsport Park on Thursday 10 June. Depending on the age of the participant, students ran anywhere from 3-8km. Students and their supportive families braved cold and wet weather conditions that made running in their events even more challenging. Well done to our endurance runners!!

CIS Touch Football

On Wednesday 16th June, 10 students represented the College and RAS and trialed for the CIS Touch Football teams;

Georgia Hayes

Sophia Brady

Sadie Croker

Milla Pavitt

Lucy Howard

Melanie Phillpot

Marlee Richards

Asha Hillam

Zali Wheatley

Melanie Philpott, Marlee Richards and Harry Hayes all were selected into the top 20 possible and probable list and played an additional 25 minutes after their 5 round games. Unfortunately, these students were not selected into the final 14 but they all have another chance within their respective age groups next year.

Bill Turner Soccer Round 2

The Bill Turner Soccer Team were presented with a tough challenge going up against a strong Marian Catholic College, Griffith. The draw configuration meant that we were to host a home game and the College oval was prepared accordingly. The following players participated on the day;

Bryce Marshall (7)

Vaughn Jenkins (7)

Nate Evans (7)

Finlay Jenkins (8) C

Daniel Okerenyang (8)

Jack Rudd (8)

Gilbert Ruwald (8)

Daniel Stodart (8)

Lucas Woodham (8)

Henry Burns (9)

Matthew Galloway (9)

Damian Kalmeier (9)

Kieran Molloy (9)

Joshua Sarantakos (9)

Unfortunately, the team was defeated 6-1. Marian proved too strong in the first half, scoring 5 goals to our 0. We put on a much better second half effort keeping Marian to a draw 1-1. The College would like to thank the efforts of each team member and Mr Ian Begg for coaching the team and Mr Colin Wright for assisting on the day.

AFL Southern NSW Final - Cancelled

Due to poor weather conditions and COVID-19 restrictions this event was cancelled.

BISSA Athletics - Postponed

118 College students were prepared to board busses at 6:00am on Tuesday to participate in the annual BISSA Athletics Carnival in Albury. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions placed upon Regional NSW Schools, the competition was postponed (possibly cancelled). While this is disappointing for our athletes, the College remains to have the safety and wellbeing of our students first and foremost. As a result, CIS is allowing students to pre-register for the CIS Championships in Sydney on Tuesday 14 September. CIS is encouraging our highest performing athletes to register (examples include students who have qualified in previous years, students who trian in athletics and students who believe they would have had a very good chance at qualifying in 2021).

The CIS Championships are not guaranteed to take place due to the nature of COVID-19 restrictions, but if this is something that students are considering, please make contact via email or students can see me to discuss further.
