Primary Athletics

On Friday 23rd September, we braved the unpredictable weather and held our Kinder to Year 6 Athletics Carnival for 2022, which is unlike previous years. Combining lower and upper primary into the one carnival, we were able to witness incredible sportsmanship from all years, the competitive spirits, as well as the amazing individual performances. It was wonderful to see all our students participating and getting involved, whilst also encouraging their peers. It was Carmel house that took the honours with 729 points, followed by Lourdes in 2nd Place with 570 points and Loreto with 488 points.

Congratulations to the following event winners, as well as new record holders.

Thank you to the HPE staff who helped organise the day, as well as to the Year 10 Student Leaders and parent volunteers who gave up their day to help us out. Selected students will be able to compete in the JSSATIS and STCPSSA athletics carnival in early November.

Secondary Basketball

Congratulations to the Year 7 Gold Basketball team who have qualified for the Grand Final in the SSATIS Basketball competition, scheduled for 17 October. Thank you to Melissa and James Griffiths for coaching and encouraging the girls for this season. We wish the team luck.

Well done to the other Secondary basketball teams for an amazing season. The competition was challenging at times; however, the girls never gave up and always left the court with a smile. Their determination and resilience grew throughout the season, and their encouragement within the team was special to watch. Thank you to staff and parents who volunteered their own time to coach and manage the teams - Lisa Cranefield, Annette Moshovakos, Mr Stewart Bennett and Ms Nikki Stuart. Special thank you to Hutchins students for umpiring as well as Maria Gerathy who was always willing to stand in as umpire.

New teams will represent the College in the upcoming High School Basketball Championships in Years 7/8 and Years 9/10 competitions, to be played on 12 and 13 October.

Primary Basketball

Well done also to all the Primary students who have been competing in the JSSATIS Basketball competition. The roster came to an end last week for our Year 3, Year 4 and two Year 5/6 teams.  All teams had a combination of new and experienced players, and it’s been fabulous to see the players growing in confidence as the roster progressed and combining well as a team. I hope the clear enthusiasm for basketball continues to grow.

Thank you to Joel Docking, Ben and Lou Christie, Kristin Warr, Joshua and Ashlee Nally for coaching the teams throughout the season. Thank you to our lunchtime training coaches, Stella Cranefield, Antonette Conrades, Eryn Ayers and Emily Browne.

Our Primary students are also turning their attention to the Primary Regional Basketball Championships on 22 and 23 October for Years 5/6 and 29 and 30 October for Years 3/4.

State Representatives

Congratulations to Ines Gadon (Year 7) and Lola Gillard (Year 8) who recently represented Tasmania in Coffs Harbour at the National Youth Championships in Football (Soccer). The Girls 14 team played four games across three days, playing against teams from NSW Country, Northern Territory, the ACT and Western Australia.

STCPSSA Year 6 Representative Netball

Last week the Southern Tasmanian Catholic Primary School Sports Association (STCPSSA) held their annual Clark v Franklin Year 6 representative sports afternoon at Dominic College.  Two students from Mount Carmel were invited to represent the Clark team, with Lilly Cherry and Fanshu Lin taking part.  Lilly and Fanshu were fantastic contributors, representing the College well, and really enjoying the experience.
