A Word from the Principal

Fiona Nolan

The book of Genesis in the Bible tells us we are made in the image and likeness of God. What does this mean when we look at each other?  How can we be the image and likeness of God and yet all be so different? What is it about each of us that resembles God? Is it just the miracle of life, or is there more to the phrase? This doesn’t mean we are more important than anything else, rather that God is central to who we are and should be central to what we do. If I am made in the image and likeness of God, so is the person driving next to me, the one asking for my help and the person smiling at me offering a hand.

If we honour this statement, then it flows naturally that we will treat others with the respect and dignity that is central to our faith. That we will celebrate the many myriad of emotions we experience, the many challenges that our human frailty brings and the many opportunities to interact with others who enrich our lives.

As the term comes to a close I am in awe of the many opportunities this term has provided to celebrate the gifts of each student. So many possibilities for our students to shine across a wide variety of opportunities. To be the image of God in their interactions with others, supporting and caring for those around them.  This is modelled to them by our amazing staff, who genuinely care for the students and celebrate their successes, trials and tribulations.

I firmly believe we have more in common than we have that is different, after all we are all made in the image and likeness of God. Let’s celebrate our unity - we are but the hands and face of Christ.

Christ has no body now on earth but yours, no hands but yours, no feet but yours. Yours are the eyes through which Christ’s compassion is to look out to the world; yours are the feet with which He is to go about doing good; yours are the hands with which God is to bless people now.

College Board

The College Board meets once a month during term time and supports the strategic direction of the College.  Our Board Chair, Mr David Ronaldson (Community Representative) is supported by a Deputy, Ms Yvonne Chaperone (Alumni) and members of the Board.  These members are Fr Shammi Perari, Ms Catherine Vickers (Parent), Mr Kurt Stephens (Parent), Mr Robert Gard (Alumni) and Ms Kate Bentley (Parent).

The Board offers valuable support to the College and I am grateful for the work the Board at Mount Carmel does behind the scenes.  At the commencement of 2023 both our Board Chair and our Deputy Board Chair will step down after their terms come to a close.  The work that both David and Yvonne have done to lead the Board, and to support the College, has been immeasurable. I am deeply grateful for their ongoing support and commitment.  The process to find replacements will begin in early 2023 with the calling of nominations to the College Board.
