Year 6 Camp

On Monday 19 September, both Year 6 classes along with five teachers - Ms Sluyters, Mrs Lane, Miss Reid, Miss Meissner and Mr McNulty - all set off for Spring Bay Mill,  our camp destination.  After arriving, we got settled into our tents and met our glamping buddies.

On Monday we sat down for lunch and got sorted into groups. The first group was going to make pizza and the second group was going to do a coastal walk along to the Windlass Beach. Group 1 went down to the pattie paddocks to collect veggies for their pizzas,  while Group 2 went for the coastal walk .

On Tuesday we caught a bus down to where the ferry to Maria Island was waiting. We reached there in 35 min. The ride was a lot of fun. We walked up to an old cottage and saw some wombats. We ate our apples then resumed our walk to the Painted Cliffs. Then we split into three groups and took turns climbing the Painted Cliffs. After the walk we ate our lunch and then returned back to the camp by ferry .

On our final day at Spring Bay Mill we did two more activities which were ‘From little things big things grow’ and ‘Growing for food’. In the first activity, we collected seeds from native trees and then replanted them in pots. In the second activity, we made pumpkin mounds which were made out of soil, grass clippings, straw, lime, blood and bone, and chicken poo. It was too cold for pumpkins so we planted lettuces instead of pumpkins which will get planted in the warmer weather.

Both mornings we had to wake up at 7o’clock, get ourselves ready and head down to eat breakfast in the Banksia Room at the campsite. After our activities for the day, we would once again meet in the Banksia Room for dinner. On the first night for dinner we had our pizzas that we made ourselves, on the second and last night we had some really yummy lasagne.

Overall we had an amazing Year 6 camp. We learned how to work together as a team, how to face our fears and we fine tuned our gardening skills. This camp wouldn't have happened without Ms Sluyters, Mrs Lane, Miss Reid, Miss Meissner and Mr McNulty. We would really like to thank them for making our camp amazing.
