Musical Notes

Congratulations to Mr Charli Holoubek and the Blackfriars Stage Band 1 on an outstanding final performance at the Magill Club last Sunday

Musical Notes

2017 has been a very successful year with many highlights and student achievements along the way.

Stage Band 1 and Gumbo Ya Ya Performance

On Sunday 3 December it was a lovely opportunity to have so many families, staff and old scholars attend the Magill Club performance with Stage Band 1 and Gumbo Ya Ya. It was an opportunity for many of the students to thank and congratulate Mr Charli Holoubek on his retirement. Mr Holoubek began at Blackfriars in 1982 teaching guitar and has worked tirelessly to build a Music Program where he has inspired so many young men. He has been a dedicated teacher, colleague, mentor and leader. We wish Mr Holoubek all the very best and his passion, knowledge and care is going to be greatly missed.

Immersion Program

An application form was sent home earlier this week with Year 3 – 7 students regarding the Woodwind and Brass Immersion Program. Please continue to send back the application forms over the next week. We look forward to a very strong program in 2018.

Application for Instrumental Tuition

Applications for Instrumental Tuition have also been sent home with Primary Students and made available on SEQTA for Middle School and Secondary School Students (Year 8 students in 2018 will receive this information in their report envelope). All students who are new and continuing with their instrumental tuition are asked to sign and complete the 2018 application form. It would be appreciated if all forms could please be returned by the end of year in order to assist planning for 2018.

Congratulations

I would like to congratulate our longstanding Guitar tutor, Matthew Baluyot who will wed his partner, Teresa in the Philippines in early January. We wish Matthew all the best and much happiness on this special occasion.

I would like to thank everybody who has helped contribute to the Music Department for 2017. To Mr Charli Holoubek, Mrs Libby Hunter and Miss Marie Wohling, thank you so much for your constant commitment, passion, care and support to both students and as a staff. Thank you to all the parents who continue to encourage their son’s development and involvement. I look forward to the opportunities that 2018 has instore of all of us.
