Library News

Awards for the Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) were distributed this week. Again, we achieved a 100% completion rate for boys in the Primary School. For some, reading the 12 allocated book is something done with passion and ease while for others it really is a challenge that takes persistence.  Well done to everyone.

In the Primary School two prizes are awarded. The first junior primary and middle/upper primary class that has all students who have finished the challenge have the opportunity to meet with a book seller and each class is allocated $100 to spend on resources for the library. The selection process is taken seriously as Rebecca, from Pegi Williams Bookshop, presents an assortment of appropriate titles and the boys have an opportunity to peruse the books and find favourites. Voting and some negotiations take place as they ensure the most popular chosen titles fit within their budgetary constraints. A special book plate, complete with their names, is then placed in the front of the chosen books. These books now make up part of the library collection. Thank you and congratulations to 2WH and 6V.

In the Senior School the annual pizza lunch was recently held as a celebration for the boys who completed the Premier’s Reading Challenge. We have also taken pleasure in handing out the awards and medals to all the successful readers in our midst. It is always a surprise to see the range of participation from the Middle School students. Some are only completing the challenge for the first time, while others are receiving the ten Year Hall of Fame certificates. We look forward to doing it all again next year.

We would like to remind any students with overdue books that they should aim to get them back before they go on holidays. Senior boys are encouraged to borrow over the holiday period and all students have access to eBooks and audiobooks to keep them entertained.
