Year 6 Father and Son Camp

Year 6 Father and Son Camp

The 28th annual Father and Son Camp was a great opportunity for many of the Year 6 boys to spend some quality time with their dads or father figures and get to know others in the Blackfriars community at their year level. The El Shaddai site near Wellington which is on the banks of the Murray River, featured an indoor recreation centre (with games tables and an indoor rockclimbing wall), cosy wooden cabins, trampolines, nature walks, archery activities, a swimming pool, conference room, generous dining facilities and much more.

There was a good mix of free time and structured activity. Sometimes we just took it easy. At other times we really challenged ourselves.

Here is what some of the boys thought about the camp:

“I think the camp was really fun and gave us a good chance to bond with our fathers. I think the activities were great and everything was good – the food, the hospitality, the dorms – everything!” Jordan

“It was a great experience for everyone involved and the activities were fun because they were hands-on and you had to work with your father to do them.” Alex

“It was an enjoyable experience to bond with your dad and escape the grasp of technology.” Max

“I think it was really awesome to get the chance to be with our dads as they are really busy sometimes. It was a lot different from just being a home.” Seb and Isaac

Here is what some of the dads thought:

“What an amazing experience this was. The time I was able to spend with my son in this way is invaluable. They will be memories we can share for a lifetime. I found all the students were very well behaved and polite which is a credit to Blackfriars and the teaching staff. Activities were very well presented and allowed my son and other students to challenge themselves, like overcoming their fear of heights, water etc. It was also an opportunity to meet some other parents and get to know some of the teaching staff in an informal setting. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves – and in particular the fathers/teachers vs students cricket game.” Graham

“Great location, fun activities and well organised. Congratulations to all involved. Enjoyed meeting other fathers and of course, spending time with my own son. Well done!” Tony

“The activities were very enjoyable, especially the canoeing on the river. It was fun.” Luciano

Thank you to all the boys and men who came along, pitched in, challenged themselves and had fun. This year, as always, there were many who acted as positive male role models.
