Vale John Devine

John’s farewell celebration was held at St Mary’s Cathedral on Saturday February 11. The Requiem Mass was conducted by Fr Mike Delaney, the OVA chaplain, and the eulogies were delivered  to the packed congregation by Fred Wooler, former Geelong captain, and by John’s son, Aaron.

John’s achievements in football with Geelong and North Hobart as a player and coach have been well documented, but his legacy extended beyond his football career. He was a loving family man – married to Marie for 60 years, father of four boys (all of whom attended St Virgil’s) and a daughter, grandfather of 12 and great grandfather of two – he was a successful businessman, a parliamentarian, and a friend to all who knew him.
