Success Remembered

1976 was regarded as the most successful season for St Virgil’s in 23 years.

For the senior eight, coached by Ross Byrne , the run into the Head of the River had gone exceptionally well. The crew won the Kirby Cup and won at seven regattas including the Maiden Eight events at the Royal Hobart and Glenorchy Regattas., and won the Southern Independent Schools’ Championship.  However, the Head of the River event on the Tamar course managed to elude the crew with the powerful Grammar combination being victorious with Saints coming in second.

However, on the same day, Under 16 Eight coached by Dr Bob Walker  was successful.
