Jacob Despard (SVC 2010-13)

The Tasmanian residential men’s 200m had stood at 20.92 sec. since 1997. That is until Jacob Despard (SVC 2010-13) clocked 20.78 sec. at the Queensland Sports and Athletics Centre  to better Simon Bresnehan’s mark.

Nine days later at the ACT Championships he had a stellar meet – he won the 200 m and in doing so lowered his recent record to 20.59 sec. He also won the 100m into a headwind, clocking  a personal best of 10.21 sec.

The 26 year old is in the best form of his life and it will be interesting to how well he performs in the upcoming Adelaide Track Classic on February 11 and the Maurie Plant Meet in Melbourne on February 23.  The reigning world 100m champion, Fred Kerley from the USA will be competing at the latter meet.
