From the President

Mr Zac Piesse (SVC 2008-11)

I hope all members have had a safe and relaxing Christmas and New Year and have had time to spend with families and friends.

The OVA Committee conducted a three-hour workshop at the Sandy Bay Parish Meeting Rooms on Saturday January 28. The focus of the meeting related to the purpose, the needs and the priorities of the Association along with formulating a calendar of events for 2023.

It has been a struggle to garner sufficient support to insure the continuance of the Association over the past several years – the fact that it has survived has been in no small measure due to the extraordinary input of the late Mark Waddington – the SVC/OVA liaison officer.

Hopefully there will be a good attendance at the upcoming AGM – there will be vacancies on the committee – two of the present committee are currently undergoing cancer treatment. Being available for committee membership and supporting OVA functions is a means of ‘giving back’ to your alma mater and enabling its viability.  Please consider!

Members would have received the latest edition of the Words & Deeds publication recently.  Its compilation is in new hands and the College has assured the committee that the distribution of two editions each year will be resumed.  Membership details can be updated on the Associations website : www.oldvirgilians.org.au

The monthly newsletter (OVAtions) is available to anyone whose email is on our data base. To be added to that database,  and hence receive the OVAtion direct,  update you details here.  This is the 63rd edition since its inception in September 2017.  All previous copies are able to be viewed on the aforementioned website.

The major calendar change was a decision to hold future Annual Dinners in the early part of the year rather than towards the more cluttered end of the year.  Hence there will be no 2023 OVA Dinner and the next one will be in March 2024 and will be held in conjunction with the AGM.

A College tour of the new building works will be scheduled at a later time, however thanks to the wonderful wizardry of Bruce Woods, a walk-through video is currently in production.
