THS DEBATING

Last week, the Thornbury High School C grade debate team competed in round 4 of the Victorian Schools Debating Competition. The competition has adapted to an online format this year, and it has been wonderful to see students still producing engaging and persuasive speeches.

The topic of the debate was: That video games have a positive effect on society. As it was a secret topic prior to the debate, students only had an hour to plan and prepare a 5 minute speech.

Year 10s Hugo Cooper, Phoenix Urlichs and Mia Armstrong represented THS and debated for the negative side, with very convincing arguments and rebuttal.

A big congratulations to these students who won the debate for THS, defeating Yarra Valley Grammar. Mia Armstrong was awarded best speaker.

Well done!
