Civics & Citizenship Committee

Although we're back to remote learning, the Civics and Citizenship Committee (SRC) have still been holding meetings and planning virtual events. We have welcomed the new year 7 Class Captains - Elizabeth Akritidis and Maddy Engeler - to our team! Coming up next week on Friday the 28th August is Wear It Purple Day so look out for more information about this soon! On Tuesday the 4th of August we celebrated National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day with a post on our Thornbury High School Facebook page. This was organised in collaboration with Jirrah Nelson who is the First Nations Representative on the SRC. We are very proud to be working with Jirrah and here is a little bit of information about her:

Hi, I’m Jirrah Nelson in 9E, I'm a very proud Yorta Yorta, Gunaikurnai, Dja Dja Wurrung woman. I'm the First Nations Representative of the SRC and the advocate for the schools Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at Thornbury High School. I basically bring awareness into the school around our cultural calendar and Aboriginal affairs.

We hope you keep an eye out for upcoming events run by the SRC and get involved as well!
