Model United Nations Experience – 16th May

PSC represents Brazil

The model UN experience was an event that far exceeded expectations. On the day, we made our way to McKinnon College where we had to utilise our debating, arguing, bargaining, and communication skills in order to win over the support of other countries. Parkdale Secondary represented Brazil in the issue of climate change. The day ran smoothly as each school had their chance to present a speech indicating their stance on climate change and the issues their country faces. Then, everyone had a chance to propose a new or changed amendment which countries had to vote on. We did great, having 29/32 yes votes on our proposed amendment, being: All developed countries not only send funding, but send education and teaching to developing countries in regards to agriculture to increase a better understanding of how to maintain healthy agricultural life. The real challenge was to keep our personal opinions out of it and to think like our country does. Overall, this experience was very positive, and we hope to have the same amount of commitment and success in the next year’s model UN experience.
