Junior School Report

Year 7: Report from Ms Emily Payne

The Year 7s have settled well into Term 2. Many new connections are flourishing after meeting new friends on camp, and they and are focused on working through their assessments as we near the end of semester. Semester 1 will conclude on Friday 20th June, and students will commence their Semester 2 classes on Monday 23rd June for the final 2 weeks of Term Two.

Next Thursday 29th May, our students will take part in a presentation from Andrew Kinch of GameAware. Andrew is an experienced teacher and avid gamer who supports students and families to develop and manage healthy gaming habits and distinguish between hobby and habit.

In conjunction with this presentation, we will be providing parents with a range of resources to support you in continuing this work at home. More information will be provided to you regarding these resources via Compass.

Year 8: Report from Mr Towler

Our Year 8 students have embraced Term Two with enthusiasm, settling into positive routines and displaying great commitment to their learning and school community. We are especially proud of their thoughtful participation in the recent Attitudes to School Survey. The insights gained from this important survey help us better understand how students are feeling about their learning, their relationships with staff, and their overall experience at school.

Term Two has also seen some outstanding achievements in sport. We are thrilled to celebrate the fantastic result at the State Swimming Championships held at MSAC, where our Girls Under 14 relay team placed 3rd in the 4 x 50 metre Freestyle. Congratulations to our talented Junior School swimmers: Maddy Schnabi, Grace Cheek, Halle Clark and Eden Benton—what an amazing effort!

A special mention also goes to our dedicated Cross Country runners who recently competed in the Interschool Cross Country. Their determination and effort were truly impressive, and we commend them for representing our school with such pride.

Year 9 Report: Mr David Bose

It has been a busy start to Term 2 in Year 9. In Week 3, students took part in Year 9 Koorie Day which is an annual event in the calendar, celebrating and teaching First Nation’s history and culture.

We were lucky enough to have Aunty Katrina Amon and Scott Darlow speak to students about their own personal stories and messages to share as First Nations people. It was fantastic to see students engaging in the educational sessions across the day. A big thank you also to Fiona James for her work organising and facilitating a great day.

Camp – Forest Edge Adventure

Last week, our Year 9 students swapped screens for scenery as they headed to Forest Edge in Neerim South for their camp experience. Throughout the week, students embraced a range of exciting outdoor challenges, including the Flying Fox, High Ropes, and Mountain Boarding—pushing themselves beyond their comfort zones and building resilience along the way.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Mr David Bose, Ms Jess Ballas, and Mr Tim Walsh for their outstanding organisation of this event. We also extend our sincere appreciation to all staff who generously gave their time to support and guide our students during this valuable and memorable experience.

Student Reports:

Camp was a wholesome experience that I will cherish for the rest of my life. From going down the flying fox to the heartwarming talk with Pete to African drumming even writing letters to our future selves to open on Year 12 camp Year 9 camp really had everything. This camp was an amazing experience, and I am forever grateful for the friendships and opportunities this camp gave me. Getting to sign up for the activities was a fun experience as you got to choose the activities you are interested in. The trivia night really bought out everyone's competitive sides and the night walk on the last night brought everyone together when climbing the steep hill. We hope everyone who goes on this camp enjoys it and we also hope the teachers improve their jokes by next year!

Year 9 camp was the best school camp I have ever been on. From the opportunity to sign up for my own activities every day to experiencing an eye watering heart to heart from Pete Keogh (Tritactics). I learnt so much on this camp about myself and everyone around me. Camp was such an amazing chance to make and strengthen friendships. A highlight of camp was getting to do interviews with mini mics on Mr Walsh’s phone down the flying fox. There were so many unique experiences like an African drumming workshop, writing a letter to my Year 12 self and the terribly steep night walk! I hope all the future Year 9s enjoy camp as much as I did.

Year Nine Camp was an unforgettable experience filled with adventure, teamwork, and fun. Over three days, we explored the great outdoors through exciting activities like flying fox, mountain boarding, and bushwalking. Each day offered new challenges that helped us build confidence and resilience. The camp provided a great opportunity to bond with classmates and make new friends away from the usual school environment.  Overall, it was an amazing experience that created lasting memories and strengthened our teamwork skills.
