Short Story & Poetry Competition

THEME: Seeds of Change 

We are running a short story and poetry competition to celebrate student writing at Heathmont College. At the upcoming Twilight Market, we will display student written entries and students can perform their slam poetry live on stage. The audience will be able to vote for their favourite entries and the winner from each category will win a book voucher. 

Short story 

Write a story in any style or genre, the only limit is your imagination, and the only rule is that your piece must be inspired by the theme: seeds of change. Up to 1000 words. 

Poetry (written only) 

Experiment with language and structure to express ideas and feelings. Your poem can be in any form you like and should be inspired by the theme: seeds of change. Up to 300 words. 

Slam Poetry (performed on stage) 

Perform your poetry live on stage, adding vocal emphasis, tone, rhythm and body language, to make your word pop. Your poetry should be inspired by the theme: seeds of change. Up to 5 minutes. To be performed live on stage during the market.
