Principal Report

End of Term 2

As the end of Term 2 draws to an end, recent weeks have been strongly focused on student learning, achievement, and future pathways. Across the school, students have been engaged in a range of important activities designed to support both their current studies and future educational goals.

Our Year 10 students participated in the Subject Supermarket, providing valuable exposure to the range of subjects available in Year 11 and helping them make informed decisions about their future studies. Students across some other year levels also attended pathways presentations in preparation for the course counselling process that will take place in Term 3.

For our Year 12 students, the General Achievement Test (GAT) was a significant milestone. Students attended school on the Curriculum Day to complete this important component of both the VCE and VCE Vocational Major programs. In addition, students in Years 9–12 recently completed their semester examinations, demonstrating their learning and commitment throughout the semester.

The transition into Semester 2 is already underway, with students spending the past two weeks commencing their new semester-based subjects and embracing fresh learning opportunities.

Semester 1 reports were also released to students and families during the final week of this term. We encourage all families to take the time to review the report together and use it as an opportunity to celebrate achievements, reflect on progress, and discuss goals for the semester ahead.

Attitude to School Survey

In the last few weeks, we have been conducting the Attitude to School Survey with students across the college. This important survey gives us an indication of the areas within the school where we are doing well and those our students think need improvement. Although we have only received preliminary results at this stage, our school has shown strong improvement once again compared to the previous year/s. The early results indicate significant increases in the categories of transitions (Year 6 into 7), management of bullying, respect for diversity and school connectedness. We look forward, as a school, to receiving finalised results from the Department of Education, with comparisons to the state and similar schools made available at this point. Learning Community Teams will then use this data to seek further input from students within focus groups and develop strategies for areas of the school where students would like to see improvement. 

Uniform Advice with Cooler Weather

Given the cooler weather is upon us, please find below some information regarding how students can keep warm on cold weather days. Non-Koo Wee Rup Secondary College items not approved in our Uniform Policy will be confiscated. 

What are my options for keeping warm on cold weather days?

Students are able to wear additional layers of clothing underneath their uniform for added warmth, provided these undergarments are completely hidden. Students are able to wear any version of the approved uniform items on any day. That is, there is no summer and winter uniform, no gender uniform items and plenty of uniform options to layer items for warmth.
