School Attendance

Daily school attendance is important for all children and young people to succeed in education and to ensure they don't fall behind both socially and developmentally. 

Compass and Attendance

When leaving attendance notes on Compass, please ensure the correct reason for your students' absence is selected. We encourage attendance notes to be entered into Compass early on the morning of the absence. 

Common reasons for absence:

• Medical/Illness

• Medical Appointment

• Bereavement

• Truancy (to be used when your student is absent from school without your knowledge or when you do not agree with their reason for not attending school)

• Parent Choice (covers all other reasons not specific to attendance note reasons provided on Compass)

• Family Holiday

• Religious/Cultural Observance

• Sorry Business (Koorie Community grief/loss)

Entering Attendance Notes on Compass

From the Compass home screen (or from your student’s profile), click the Add Attendance Note item.

• From the Compass home screen (or from your student’s profile), click the Add Attendance Note item.

• From the pop-up window

• Select the reason

• Enter a brief description of the absence

• Select the start and finish time

• Click the ‘Save’ button

Using the Compass App

• From the homepage, click on the blue shortcuts button from the bottom taskbar
• Click on ‘Submit Attendance Note’
• Select the reason
• Enter a brief description of the absence
• Select the start and finish time
• Click the ‘Save’ button

SMS Link

If your child is marked as absent without prior approval you will receive a message containing a link. When you follow the link, you will have the opportunity to explain the absence.
