The Morrisby My Career Insights counselling is a program for all year 9 students in Victorian Government secondary schools. It is designed to help students make informed choices about subject selection, vocational education and training, senior secondary school certificates and further study. This program is designed to support current career education programs within the school and to be a lifelong career tool that can be revisited and updated.
Morrisby profiling includes a series of questionnaires and quizzes with each section set to a timer. It is not important students complete all set questions or quizzes, instead the system is looking at the accuracy of the responses. This identifies a student's underlying strengths and potential in particular areas, not the acquired skills or knowledge.
The Morrisby profiling generates a personalised career and subject recommendations enabling students to explore the options and opportunities suggested that fit into their abilities, interest and personalities.
We highly recommend students undertake some practice questions to familiarise themselves prior to the profiling session to be held in class on Wednesday 17th September during P3 and P4. http://app.morrisby.com/Morrisby-Online-Practice-Questions
On Wednesday 8th October in Term 4, we will commence the Morrisby counselling sessions to unpack the students profiling for students whose parents completed the consent forms. 2025_DE_MCI_General_Permission_Form (1).pdf
Pathways will be allocating the counselling session times once the majority of Year 9 students have completed profiling in the last week of Term 3. Students who will be away during the profiling stage are encouraged to contact pathways to make alternative arrangements.
The end of term is fast approaching so we are encouraging Yr 12 students looking to apply for Uni or TAFE in 2026 (and or defer), to make a VTAC application, submit & pay for course preferences whilst we are still at school enabling pathways support. VTAC have made considerable changes to the portal and application processes which can be a little confusing.
The timely application period closes in the school holidays at 5pm on 29th September coinciding with the courses with early closing dates.
These courses cannot be added beyond this date: https://vtac.edu.au/early-close
Monash Uni: Undergraduate Medicine entry Uni Melb: Fine Arts, Creative and Performing Arts, and Music courses
Students can continue to add, edit and move preferences around once they have submitted and paid the VTAC $80 fee.
We encourage the list of 8 preferences with at least one pathway course considering the actual ATAR data is not available until December. Students will have the opportunity upon ATAR release to log back into VTAC to move, add or change preferences aligning to ATARs to increase selection.
Important things to remember before submitting your VTAC application:
Personal Details section: you MUST select February start date even if you intend to defer.
Educational History section: students MUST add VCE 2025 as the year they intend to complete the VCE & fill in the data. If you studied a Yr12 subject in 2024 add another claim.
These two functions sets the VTAC fee to $80 instead of $100 which is what non year 12 applicants pay.
SEAS: students must submit an impact statement first before accessing the statement of support templates and email function for digital copies of the SEAS template can be opened. At this stage we recommend uploading PDF versions of the Statement of Supports as there is considerable delays in receiving the electronic logins to access to the online statements. SEAS Impact statements can continue to be edited until closing on the 10th October at 5pm.
Students studying a Second Language at Unit 3 + 4 level (Year 12) need to be aware there are a few Second Languages requiring additional application to the VCAA - the Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority first to enable access to the language study before they can be enrolled on the VCE VASS database to ensure suitability. Additional evidence of residency, identification and years in an English language learning environment is a requirement.
Unit 3 + 4 languages requiring additional application > collect from pathways:
Chinese Second Language & Second Language Advanced
Indonesian Second Language
Japanese Second Language
Korean Second Language
Vietnamese Second Language
All external language providers must complete the VCE Assessing School Notification form prior to or at the beginning of the year the student will study a VCE level language. This form details the students name, course code, VCE level of language (Unit 1 + 2 or Unit 3 + 4) plus the contact details and code of the external language provider.
Thank you to the students that returned their VET Expression of Interest forms and USI receipt. I have applied for VET on your behalf for 2026 and shall advise the application outcome as soon as we are informed by the VET providers. This may not be until mid October.
Any remaining students interested in applying for VET or who listed VET on their Web Preferences but have not completed the VET Expression of Interest form MUST complete this process urgently.
All VET EOI forms must have a copy of the USI receipt attached to facilitate an application on the students behalf. Failure to provide this information will delay the application and potentially a VET course offer.
The USI number (Unique Student Identifier) is an educational number linking the student to the course studied, units of study to be completed in the course and the final outcomes. The USI is used for life for any short term or long term courses a student undertakes. The USI portal will retain all this information making it a great central place to download transcript of results.
VET is extremely popular across schools making places highly competitive and based on a first in first served basis. Box Hill Institute have closed their round 1 cycle to determine student numbers and spaces ready for round 2. We cannot guarantee securing a VET placement and students can withdraw their application towards the end of the year if they change their mind.
NOTE: VET Electrotechnology students please be advised Box Hill Institute and Swinburne are no longer taking applications for this course. They are over subscribed and cannot service any more applications.
VSV portal is now open for student applications. Students looking to study a VCE subject online must collect and complete a Virtual Schools Victoria Expression of Interest form available from pathways to facilitate a smoother application process.
Work experience participation is optional at VSC and is strongly encouraged to all students aged 15yrs+ to get involved in this very beneficial and rewarding program. Students can undertake Work Experience every year until they graduate VSC.
Work experience provides young people with a taste of the real world of work and a clearer understanding of a particular industry, field or business they may be interested in pursuing in the future. It assists in career discovery and exploration, goal setting and decision making whilst preparing students for VCE or VCE VM, future tertiary studies, apprenticeship / traineeships or full-time work.
There are no designated time frames for students to complete placements as we believe a flexible delivery arrangement provides students with a better opportunity to meet the availability and operational time frames of businesses and industries within the community. This also means we are not competing with other local schools which can limit student’s placement opportunities.
Placement dates are arranged through consultation and negotiation between the employer, school and student to maximise the experience. A great time to consider undertaking work experience in Year 10 is the last week of term 3 if your child is not attending the Central Australia to Darwin trip. Drop into Pathways to discuss further and collect the ‘Preparing for the Workplace’ pack.

Career Development is the lifelong process of managing life, learning and work (paid and unpaid) over our lifespan. The ability to make informed decisions, manage and transition through change for a personally determined future.
Young people build their career development through self-awareness; understanding how they make decisions and how these decisions impact future aspirations through exploration, identifying interests, values and preferred learning styles through careers exploration activities such as Morrisby in Year 9 and Careers Tools in Year 10. The ability to research a wide range of career options helping them to select subjects they may enjoy learning whilst aligning to tertiary course pre-requisite requirements in the future or apprenticeship/traineeship requirements and work.
Career development is further enhanced by juggling the expectations and requirements of school with extra-curricular activities like sport and family responsibilities, part-time work, community involvement and social interests.
To further assist your Career Development please visit vscpathways.com an easy-to-use interface with links to a multitude of career resources for both Students and Parents. We encourage all VSC students and their families to explore the Pathways website to assist in making positively informed decisions about their future.
