TOM, STEM & Student Highlight

Vermont Secondary College

Well done to the 6 Vermont Secondary College teams who competed in Tournament of the Minds on Sunday 17th August at Deakin University.

In 2025, we had five teams in the STEM division and one team in Social Sciences. All teams presentations were well done, and we are incredibly proud of this enthusiastic group of Year 7 to Year 9 students who dedicated many lunchtimes and after school sessions towards completing the challenge.

Congratulations to our Social Sciences team who was awarded the Spirit of TOM award.

VSC STEM Lunchtime Club

This year, members of our STEM Lunchtime Club contributed towards props for our VSC School Musical.  Did you see Pinocchio’s nose extend when telling a non-truth?

Well done to Alex M, Owen S, Ryan W and Henry M who were the main designers and constructors of Pinocchio’s nose. Other projects currently being conducted in STEM club include 3D modelling the school, building remote controlled cars (see Student Highlight) with the goal of a robot sumo battle, building a variety of pre-fabricated kits to learn how mechanisms operate, starting the Microsoft robotic hand project and a variety of 3D modelling and printing projects including a marble maze, supports for clamps used in materials technology and inserts for our paper towel dispensers.
