Lights, Camera, Inspiration! Year 12 Media Hits ACMI

Year 12 isn’t always just about study, notes, and the endless cycle of essays and assessments. Sometimes, it’s about exploring the incredible talent we have right here in Australia—and our Year 12 Media students got a front-row seat to exactly that.
Our budding directors, editors, and cinematographers made their way to the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) for the VCE Top Screen Season of Excellence 2026. It was a day packed with cinematic magic, inspiration, and more “oohs” and “aahs” than you could shake a clapboard at.
Students had the chance to explore a selection of outstanding VCE media productions—think of it as a showcase of some of the country’s brightest creative minds, all under one roof. From clever storytelling to jaw-dropping visuals, our students were treated to a feast of ideas, innovation, and yes… a little healthy envy about just how talented their peers are!
But it wasn’t all just looking and gasping in awe. Our students also picked up practical tips, clever tricks, and expert advice that they can take straight back to their own projects. Whether it was a camera angle that perfectly captured a moment, a sound design trick that added drama, or advice on building a narrative that really resonates, there was plenty to inspire and motivate their creative minds.
And let’s be honest—there was a little bit of fun in there too. Between dissecting brilliant work and dreaming up their next big project, there was plenty of laughter, photo opportunities, and maybe even a few “I want to make that” moments. After all, inspiration hits hardest when you’re surrounded by excellence, and ACMI delivered in spades.
It was a day that reminded everyone that Year 12 isn’t just about study—it’s about exploring, creating, connecting, and seeing just how much talent Australia has to offer. We couldn’t be prouder of our Year 12 Media students for diving in with curiosity, enthusiasm, and big ideas.
Here’s to more days of inspiration, creativity, and maybe just a little bit of cinematic stardom!
