The instrumental music program has had a lot going on in the last few weeks.
Thank you to all staff, students and parents who made the showcase such a success. We had all Norwood ensemble groups performing on Monday, 2nd September. Students performed pieces they have been working on since camp and it really was such an amazing highlight of the year to see our students up on stage performing to a very high standard. Ensembles included: String Ensemble, Senior Chamber Group, Intermediate Band (combined with Junior band), Vocal Duet (Jess M & Emily W), Chorale, Flute Duet (Erin F & Phoebe C), Guitar Ensemble and Concert Band. Thankyou also to the music captains, Lucas M, Erin F, Caleb S & Tori C for compering the evening.
The Concert Band had a fantastic excursion on Wednesday, 4th September to Hawthorne Arts Centre to perform in the Victorian School Music Festival. Students listened to other schools’ performances with similar level pieces of music and when they performed, they were awarded Silver and then worked with the fabulous Nick Matherne (Artistic Director of the Victorian Youth Symphony Orchestra) before heading to McDonalds for celebratory ice-creams on the way home. Students were absolutely outstanding in both performance and being great ambassadors for our college.
Last weekend, Zetara and Oren Bheem represented Box Hill Academy Brass at the Latrobe Valley Eisteddfod.
On the Saturday they competed in the solo sections with Zetara (Tuba) placing 3rd in the 14 Years and Under Juvenile Brass Championship Solo and Oren (Bass Trombone) with a Highly Commended award in the 15-19 Year Old Junior Brass Championship Solo.
On the Sunday, they placed 1st with Box Hill Academy Brass Band in the Junior Grade.
Congratulations Zetara and Oren!
