House Reading Challenge Pizza Lunch

Last Friday, 6 September, students in years 7 – 9 from Yarra House, along with those students who read the most books from other houses came together with Pizza and garlic bread to celebrate the end of this year’s House Reading Challenge. Lunch was followed by the presentation of awards by Acting Principal, Mrs Jackie Harris. Yarra was the House winner and they were presented with The Reader’s Cup. In our individual winner’s category, first place went to Divy in year 9 who read the most books (59), Ella in year 7 in 2nd place with 55 books and Amelia in year 8 who read 47 books overall.

This year there were 115 students participated in the challenge and over the 3 months, read 534 books overall. Congratulations on an amazing achievement.

ATASDA Travelling Suitcase Display

Over the last couple of weeks we have had a rolling display of creations lent to us by ATASDA (Australian Textile Arts And Surface Design Association). The theme for their artwork was Faces and Flora featuring works inspired by Frida Cahlo. These came to us as part of their Travelling Suitcase which will be on display in the library foyer until Monday, 16 September. We are incredibly grateful to ATASDA for sharing their artwork with us. Library Staff hope it has inspired our students as they create their own artwork for assessment.

Coming soon… UNO TOURNAMENT

Term 4 will see students playing off to be winners in the inaugural UNO Championship. Watch this space for more details next term.

Holiday reading

School holidays are fast approaching and now is the time to come and visit the library to stock up on some reading for the holidays. We have some fabulous new books on display or, if you prefer, there are lots of old favourites you can reread. Library staff are also ready and willing to help you find something, if you’re not sure what your next read will be.

This is also just a reminder that if you happen to have any overdue books, Library Staff would love it if you could either return them or bring them to the Circulation Desk to renew them. It would be awesome to have a clean slate going into the holidays.

Don’t forget you can follow the library on Instagram @norwoodlibrary to stay up to date on upcoming events, competitions and new books.
