VCE Vocational Major

Hope in a Suitcase

Every year, our Year 12 VCE VM students take on a special mission: to make a difference through a community project that supports a charity of their choice. This year, they chose to back an incredible organisation—Hope in a Suitcase!

Hope in a Suitcase is a non-profit that provides suitcases filled with essential items to children entering foster care, many of whom arrive with little more than the clothes on their backs. The organisation’s goal is to ensure these children feel loved, valued, and supported during such a challenging time.

Our students had the privilege of kicking off their project with a visit from Julie, a passionate volunteer from Hope in a Suitcase. Julie shared the heartwarming mission of the organisation, gave insight into the foster care system in Australia, and explained the logistics behind assembling the suitcases. With inspiration and new knowledge, the planning was underway!

The students took charge, organising and marketing a goods donation drive and BBQ fundraiser—and both were a resounding success! Thanks to the incredible support of the Norwood community, nearly 600 essential items were collected, and an impressive $757 was raised.

With BBQ profits in hand, the students rolled up their sleeves and got to work creating a shopping list to purchase even more items to donate.

The Year 12 VCE VM team would like to extend a heartfelt thank you and congratulations to everyone who donated, bought a sausage at our BBQ, or supported the cause in any way.  'We couldn’t have done it without you!'

Year 12 Mock Interviews

In Work Related Skills and Literacy, the Year 12 students researched a potential job that they would apply for in the future, and developed a portfolio to present to employers at an interview.

On Friday, 13 September, the students took part in mock interviews with their classroom teachers, Mrs Samantha Fox and Mr Jonathan Flack, as well as a member of the principal class team. The students had the opportunity to share their strengths, the attributes and skills which they bring to the role, and their personal and professional goals for the future.

Attending a job interview can be a very nerve-wracking experience, particularly if it's for the first time. The mock interviews gave our students a chance to practice and receive feedback, and no doubt it will support them in developing their confidence for future employment.

We are really proud of the way in which our students prepared their portfolio and subsequent interview, and we wish them every success as they complete their final week at Norwood.
