Urinetown the Musical: that was our show

Congratulations and enormous thanks to all involved with Norwood’s 2024 Musical Production.

While our wonderful leads and supporting roles shone like stars, a successful production is fundamentally a team effort that relies heavily on the world-building efforts of the chorus and dancers, and on the preparatory efforts of costumers, set-builders, prop creators, music teachers and students, and choreographers. Norwood Secondary College compiles quite a team.

Apart from all the set-building, rehearsing, music, singing and dancing, contributions this year were wide and varied, including food deliveries, program sales, supervision, IT advice, and crash courses in forensic lighting and graffiti stenciling.

Our three-night performance run was a huge success, culminating in a Saturday night performance that raised the roof of the Karralyka Theatre Centre, which is already considerably lofty.

Of course, our short post-show, pre-bump-out celebrations and elation resulted in torrents of tears and hugs all around – cry me a ‘golden, frothy canal' – as well as profound new friendships and connections throughout the year levels of the whole cast, crew and band.

While our show is over for another year, the memories, comradery and supportive culture of Norwood’s Productions will endure, along with the sparkly confetti residue, which catches my eye in the most surprising places (although that was biodegradable, so perhaps not for as long).

I know we all look forward to celebrating once more while we watch the video recording, together again, in the final week of Term 3. And I can’t wait to start working with many of you again on the 2025 Production of … wait and see!
