Coming up in Interschool Sport
Well done to our Year 7 students, who participated in Interschool Sports on Monday 24th March. Volleyball, tennis and lawn bowls all travelled on the same bus to various locations and enjoyed their first Beachside events. Thank you to our senior students, Zoe and Abbey, who assisted our Volleyball Girls' teams.
Our fantastic Senior Girls' Cricket team, featuring some of our intermediate stars, will continue their summer of cricket in October. The team, supported by coach and bus driver Ms Beames, made the long drive to Leongatha worthwhile. After bowling out Bass Coast for 60 runs (Annabel 2, Grace 2), the Chelt.Sec girls were quick to chase the runs with 8 wickets to spare. This gave the girls plenty of time to celebrate Ms. Beames' birthday with a trip to McDonalds.
Congratulations to Tilly L. (Captain), Emily C. (Vice-Captain), Hayley C., Grace C., Darcy D., Molly A., Sarah C., Shuly P., Annabel M., Ruby A. and Charli A.
The girls will take on SEDA College in the State Semi Final in October
Personal Best at Southern Metro Swimming
Congratulations to Riley on a fantastic day at the Southern Metro Swimming Carnival. After three first places at the Beachside competition in March, Riley had the opportunity to progress to the next event. Riley came third in all of his events: 100m freestyle, 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke. Chelt.Sec is extremely proud of Riley for striving and achieving some of his personal best times. Riley set a time of 30.42 seconds for the 50m freestyle, so very close to his goal of 30 seconds. Keep going Riley!
Well Batted!
Congratulations to Annabel M. on receiving the batting award for the Libby Nichols Under 16B Division. Annabel finished her domestic cricket season with 261 runs for Le Page Park Cricket Club, scoring an average of 65.25 runs. Well batted Annabel.
Chelt.Sec Flyers
Each term, we are on the lookout for Chelt.Sec Flyers; students and staff who are putting their best foot forward in their sporting endeavours. We welcome any details or photos that highlight our students and their achievements. Please send these to har@cheltsec.vic.edu.au
We have had some terrific numbers in our basketball sessions on Monday after school.
We have circulated interest to join a basketball team, unfortunately none of the students wanting to join a team fall into the same age bracket. Cheltenham will not enter a team in the McKinnon Competition this winter but will consider our options for other competitions in the future and in the local area.
Monday night skills and development sessions will go ahead in Term 2, and all ages are welcome to participate. These sessions take place in our gym straight after school. Please email har@cheltsec.vic.edu.au to be added to the Compass event.
Our previous Netball Academy coach, Leah Percy, is now the Director of Netball at Southern Saints Victorian Netball League. Together with her company Synergise Health and Sport Development, the Southern Saints are hosting a School Holiday specialist netball clinic on Tuesday 8th April.
We would love to see Netball return to the Chelt.Sec Academy group. Please email har@cheltsec.vic.edu.au with an expression of interest for a community team or weekly skills and development training.
A huge congratulations to Josie. Our Basketball Academy coach from Synergise Health and Sport Development will be leaving us. Josie has been recruited by Central Maine
Community College Women's Basketball and will be heading to the United States in August. We wish Josie every success and look forward to watching her basketball journey flourish.
